Enhancing Iconic Architecture: Apartment Copan Block E
Situated within the renowned Copan Building in São Paulo, Brazil, Apartment Copan Block E, spanning approximately 70 square meters, stands as a testament to modern design. Conceived by Valdivieso Design, the project was driven by the aim to amplify the architectural essence originally envisioned by Niemeyer while catering to the unique needs of the new resident.
Reflecting Personality through Design
The client, transitioning from a spacious house, brought with her a lifelong passion for culture and theater, imprinting her distinctive personality onto the apartment’s design. Vibrant colors and a selection of quintessentially Brazilian furniture and objects infuse the space with character and warmth.
Reimagining Space: Integration and Renewal
In a transformative demolition phase, non-original dry walls were removed to integrate the kitchen seamlessly into the living area. The decision to expose the ribbed slab, a structural element of the building, by removing the plaster ceiling, further accentuates the apartment’s architectural integrity.
Restoring Original Elements
Renovation efforts focused on preserving the original Brazilian ‘Peroba Rosa’ parquet flooring, meticulously restored in the living room, kitchen, and bedroom. The compact yet efficient kitchen, featuring integrated cabinetry with a built-in washing machine, seamlessly merges with the living space to enhance circulation and spatial flow.
Functional Design Solutions
A striking multifunctional bookcase, crafted in blue woodwork, takes center stage in the living room. Equipped with recessed sconces, it serves as a versatile storage solution while doubling as a TV unit and workstation. The expansive bathroom, adorned with vintage pink tiles and hexagonal flooring, offers flexibility with a concealable shower stall. Meanwhile, the luminous bedroom showcases an exposed concrete structural wall behind an antique green bed, creating a captivating focal point.
Lighting and Connectivity
A comprehensive lighting overhaul, complemented by visible metallic electrical ducts on ceilings and walls, breathes new life into the space. These thoughtful enhancements not only illuminate the apartment but also underscore its industrial-chic aesthetic.
