Crafting Serenity: Apartment Renovation in Sants
In the renovation of this apartment, undertaken by Parramon + Tahull Arquitectes, the objective was to cultivate a serene and understated ambiance, prioritizing natural materials while adhering to a modest budget. Tailored for a two-person family, the design emphasizes open spaces, eschewing rigidity, and maximizing natural light penetration.
Unveiling Original Elements
The apartment, previously subject to haphazard renovations, necessitated stripping away layers to reveal its authentic features, including floors and ceilings, to restore its original character. Opening up the living room to the gallery space, formerly enclosed and partially occupied by a bathroom, facilitated spatial expansion and enhanced visual continuity. Preservation and restoration of the original hydraulic pavements, distinguished by their vibrant hues, take precedence against the backdrop of white walls and ceilings. In instances where preservation was unfeasible, white marble and porcelain stoneware were employed as substitutes.
Embracing Natural Elements
Wood, particularly birch plywood for custom furniture and pine for windows, dominates as the primary material for new elements, lending warmth and texture to the space. Existing woodwork, both interior and exterior, underwent a transformation through a coat of white paint, offering a seamless integration with the contemporary additions while preserving glimpses of its past. The commitment to sustainability is evident in the choice of natural and eco-friendly materials such as marble, mosaic, and wood, aligning with the project’s ethos.
Sustainable Design and Climate Control
Artificial air conditioning is eschewed in favor of passive cooling techniques, relying on cross ventilation and strategically placed ceiling fans to maintain thermal comfort. This approach not only reduces environmental impact but also fosters a healthier indoor environment for the occupants.
The Apartment Renovation in Sants exemplifies a harmonious blend of modern design sensibilities with a reverence for history and sustainability principles, resulting in a tranquil and inviting living space that reflects the values of its inhabitants.
