Theros All-Suite Hotel, named after the ancient Greek word for summer, offers a serene and mystical retreat reminiscent of carefree childhood summers. Surrounded by the scents of jasmine, the rustling of reeds, and the gentle sway of palms in the Meltemi breeze, the hotel embodies the principles of slow living and well-being, rooted in the ancient Greek philosophy of “Ef-Zin” and the Greek ideal of hospitality. Its modern design is inspired by traditional architecture and local history.

Design Inspiration

The design of Theros All-Suite Hotel draws inspiration from the medieval castle of Kos town, local cottages, and the spatial arrangement of the island’s rural settlements. The hotel incorporates the local stone construction idiom and mirrors the natural landscape and exotic gardens of Kos town.

Overcoming Design Challenges

One of the major challenges in designing Theros was working with the narrow plot dimensions, measuring 40 meters wide by 150 meters long. The main building’s entrance features a strict stone structure, accessed via a wooden bridge over water. Inside, guests are greeted by a welcoming reception area with a monastic table, leading to an inner paradise on the western terrace with a central swimming pool. The layout promotes a sense of relaxation, with reception, dining, and leisure areas flowing seamlessly towards the outdoor terraces. Large openings on both facades blur the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, offering unobstructed views of the eastern terrace with eucalyptus trees and the beach.

Suite Layout and Privacy

The 47 suites at Theros are arranged in introverted neighborhoods, where transitions from public to private spaces are marked by different materials, plantings, and spatial qualities. Peripheral paths are bordered by reeds on one side and continuous stone walls on the other, ensuring privacy. The solid stone walls feature minimal openings for natural cooling. Passing through castle-like doors into communal courtyards with clay pots of basil, guests discover hidden paradises with private pools and lush tropical vegetation.

Suite Features

Ground-floor suites at Theros boast private pools and are surrounded by palm and olive trees, while upper-floor suites feature large verandas, hammocks, and roof gardens. The interiors use neutral colors and natural materials, seamlessly integrating with the exterior environment.

Sustainable and Bioclimatic Design

Theros All-Suite Hotel emphasizes sustainability and environmental ethics through bioclimatic architecture and modern building technologies, including a central electronic room control system (KNX). The gardens feature native Mediterranean species, such as olive trees, palms, cypresses, lemon trees, and aromatic herbs from the Hippocratic healing tradition, all requiring minimal water. Additionally, a farm-to-table spot supplies organically grown cherry tomatoes for the hotel’s kitchen, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
